Austerity strikes the M a f i a

A really fascinating story in today's Indie about the strife being suffered by families lower down the m a f i a chain as a result of austerity in Italy:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/even-!!!!!-fails-to-escape-grips-of-recession-8531652.html

Even the m a f i a is not immune to the lingering recession, according to new reports that suggest a merciless spending review is causing serious discontent in Sicily’s Cosa Nostra.

The axe, which is falling chiefly on hand-outs to junior mobsters, family members and hangers-on, has exacerbated the fall in “earnings” already taking place thanks to a police blitz on extortion rackets.

Only the big !!!!! bosses will be spared the social security cuts. Those worst affected have been the relatives of jailed mobsters, prompting their wives and girlfriends to lead the backlash, Italian press reports said.

The word m a f i a does not pass swear filter check, even when relevant to an article on the economy, so apologies for the !!!!! marks.

    Why is m a f i a caught by the swear filter???

Have the Cosa Nostra tried a shakedown of the benefits board, to replace all this lost income for the wives and girlfriends of the mobsters in the OP?

Is there a hard core of extreme moneysavers referred to as the moneysaving m a f i a, that have Tesco's promotion team quaking in their boots?

Will Martin start offering Energy companies deals that are "too good to refuse"?

Times must be bad! Making an offer that it seems some can refuse, or at least gripe about in the press.
