Ford Fiesta - no ved, mot, insurance

I WILL ADD I AM NOT USING THIS CAR ON THE ROAD TO TRAVEL.

ok so after my last car that was stolen (never claimed) I bought another. A Ford Fiesta 1998 - it's clean as a whistle. Drives nice and has a aftermarket immob.

I have a set of keys and a spare set. Now somehow I LOST my main keys just as I was trying to sort insurance so I can drive it. Weeks passed and I declared it SORN. This was NOV

The problem with my spare set is NO KEY FOB so its alarmed and unusable.

We had a house fire (saldy) and I know if the keys were that room I will never find them crazy enough we cleaned out the rooom and skip hire. Then my mum lifted a carpet from NOV and out came the keys. OUTSIDE somehow the whole time.

RIGHT I've cleaned the car got it running new batt I needed. I will admit I have tested it now, I reversed it off our kerb and bang hit the exhaust/gear box is hard now too.

I had the same problem on my pug. Once I am legal I want breeze blocks or a ramp.

Now do I have to insure+VED before I goto the garage to fix the fault? I am worried after paying £1200-£2k and then a VED I will endup ripped or paying out too much for the exhaust that now hangs down. Ideally I'd like to get a quote on it as it may cost half of the car.

Insurance is a must if putting it on the road and the only time you would get away without having tax is when travelling to/from a prebooked mot or travelling to/from a place of repair resulting from an mot fail.

A 1998 Fiesta is probably not worth much. You don't seem to have had much luck recently - car stolen, lost keys, house fire, exhaust falling off......

Phone a garage and ask how much for a complete exhaust fitted. Then thats the maximum price it will be.

Insure it tax it fix it. or fix it yourself/

Although if you took it off the property it should be insured anyway.

Around here the neighbours would have been on the phone and reporting it before the wheels hit the tarmac.

They must have a hotline to the police and DVLA. It will be towed faster than you can blink.

  • eitherway I need a car. I'll get a VED, sort insurance then do I ask a garage about the fault and then MOT it?

    In that order?

You need to get the mot before you can tax it.

  • your exhaust hanging down could be the hanger rubbers couple of quid from motor factors so before going all pete tong on a new system pehaps get under and check the hooks and rubbers the exhaust is hung up with.

gearbox gone stiff? open bonnet and see if the jolt you gave the car has broken an engine mount? iff not then check the brake fluid to see if its at max level (the hydraulic clutch is fed off the brake servo).

The hydraulic clutch is seperate from the brake system, two seperate master cylinders.
