Polenta in cake?

Hi everyone,
I'm attempting to make this cake in a couple of days' time using polenta: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5870/glutenfree-lemon-drizzle-cake . However, the only polenta I could buy in T*sco was a firm block of stuff labelled 'ready made'. Can I assume that a cake won't work with that and I need to go on a hunt for a bag of grain-like things? Or could I fudge it with grating the block
?
Thanks all

Polenta is also called corn meal - yellow or white.
You will find it is the world food isle in the major supermarkets. Use the the fine one for cakes.

It would have to be the grain, grating won't work.0 -
I agree - grating it would be like using breadcrumbs in a recipe because you ran out of flour.
Hope your cake goes well though. Our local cafe does a gorgeous polenta and orange cake which is very popular with everybody, not just those who can't tolerate gluten.0 -
Yes you would need the grain type, if you can't find it in the supermarkets, Amazon do packs of 6 bags of corn meal for less than £40
-
OP, Tesco have it near the huge bags of rice & spices, it's about £1.30 for a bag of cornmeal0

It's on the pasta shelves and doesn't look like flour- I had to ask for it in the supermarket.
Polenta cake is quite dense and grainy. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
Thanks all. I had to ask where the polenta was in the first place and they only had the blocky stuff - it's a relatively small branch. What's the best way to eat block polenta, as an aside?0

Grill it, rather than frying - it's carb so use in place of potatoes, maybe with chicken in a tomato sauce.0
