About a month ago we moved into our rented property, which is lovely and everything, it's just SO cold. The main offenders are, the hallway between the front door and living room, the garden door which is rotting at the bottom so there's a hole in it, and our bedroom which has 2 windows and is exposed to the wind on both sides.
How easy is it to draughtproof and what sort of OS things can I do? I've got draught excluders by the doors, but to be honest, the gap around the front door doesn't really do much. I've got a sock shoved in the gap in the door which has a hole in, but shoving the sock in makes the gap at the bottom of the door bigger. It's also got single glazed glass in. We have a curtain in front of that door, but it's not lined. Do you think lining it would help much? I don't think there's much that can be done for our room, but any suggestions would be great.
Edited to add: I have a 14 month old so needs to be nice and warm in here

Can you cover the hole in the door with tape? Parcel, gaffer etc..that might work better than your sock.
i would also contact he landlord about the door and it's security implications. See if he will get a new door.PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.

Hi, one property I lived in that had single glazed windows with metal frames was very cold and I used a product which was a plastic film which you attached to the frames with double sided tape and then heated gently with a hair drier until it went taut. It was a bit of a fiddle to put on but did help with the drafts. The down side of it was that you couldn't open the windows when it was on. I think you can still get it in DIY stores. I would definitely go for a lined curtain/blanket or throw to keep the heat in at the doors. Best of luck.0

If you search the Preparing for Winter thread for "window quilts" you'll find some handy hints! (They're exactly what they sound like..) Yes, lining helps a lot - I really noticed the difference in my east-facing bathroom when I replaced the blind with a set of lined curtains.0

I live in a new build with double glazing, but still have a lined curtain at the front door. It just makes me feel warmer, as if I am shutting the cold outside.0
