Vitamin D Supplements Warning

Lots of medical experts say we should keep our vit D levels up but make sure you get VITAMIN D3 (cholecalciferol ) not vitamin D2. I went online to replace supplies and unwittingly bought the wrong sort. This was mainly because they were low priced and I hoped I'd got a bargain. Wrong !!
When I looked on the pack it wasn't specific about the vitD content so I emailed them to ask (wasn't on their website either? ) To their credit they replied that it was vitD2. So I'm stuck with a very bad "bargain" Not sure I should mention the company name ? But it seems you get what you pay for in the end !

Eat plenty of oily fish for bioavailable vitamin D, don't supplement individual micronutrients unless specifically advised to by a medical professional. Decent dietetics/ nutrition experts would say a supplement regime should be tailored to the individual's lifestyle, health, goals and dietary restrictions.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

My doctor told me to get the cheapest vit d I could find so bought one in Wilko and tested a month later my levels were fine. I must have been lucky to get the right sort:)0 -
It's definitely D3, I have osteopenia (early stages of osteoporosis or brittle bones
) I have to make sure I know these things! I take vitamin D3 with calcium combined and you can also get it from sunlight (but not if you wear SPF cream as it blocks many of the rays you need) and from things like oily fish and nuts. Some people however have problems where their bodies wont absorb the D3 and this can be a problem, low D3 can result in major problems so if you are unsure, get tested and tested again after you've taken the supplements or dealt with the lack of it in your diet.
You can get a test to see if you are low in it via a normal blood test and if you do need a top up it can be administered via an injection, but trust me (I've had them) opt for the real deal not the injections!!0 -

Very well put! I have a child who is on Steroids and so has to take Calcium and Vit D and due to them being on another drug too the advice is to stay out of sun/wear high sun block.0 -

I take vitD3 in high dose supplements. I get the gp to test my levels every 6 months in case I go too high. So far I've been taking them for 3 years and my levels are still fine. You need to keep getting checked when you're taking anything like this.0
