jobs that go to 'internal' candidates

Just a moan, its bloody annoying to go to the hassle/expense of applying for a job and attending interview only to be turned down because "although you interviewed extremly well and we would love to have you in post because we think you could do the job very well, we have an internal candidate"
I just wish they wouldn't bother advertising externally if they have someone inhouse as it wastes my time! I lost about £40 quid over this, i had to pay for childcare on the interview day, travel, suit drycleaned plus of course i couldn't do agency work on that day which would normally get me £50 after childcare.

Here, here!! I was at an assessment interview last week and it turned out I was the only external candidate and there were 9 others internally! I know that there was one before us and that they were all internal also. I think I was just brought in so they could say that they had interviewed externally:rolleyes:The world is full of Pink Fluffy Clouds......you just need to open your eyes to see them:)

yup pi$$es me off too - it's a policy at most places that they have to advertise externally as well even though they have someone lined up for the job! Stupid innit.

It's extremely annoying and shortsighted. I never do it.
I never do it the other way either, I never interview internal candidates if I know it's going to go external, people invest a lot in time for preparation, why waste their time?0 -
I think its mainly where a job is being covered by a temp - although the company want the temp to have the job, they can't advertise it internally for temp to apply as they are not classed as internal staff
I went to 3 interviews at the same company for 3 different jobs - all of them went to the people who were temping the job.
what !!!!!! me off the most was I used to temp there but decided to leave as they wouldn't make my job permanant! I even went for a job there as receptionist which I knew I was more than capable of doing as I was the one who trained the current receptionist (who is now head receptionist)!!!0
