Jacobs bailiffs- late payment

Hi,

So a couple of months back I received a big scary letter from Jacobs bailiffs advising that if I didn't repay council tax arears within 24hours they would return to my property to take my stuff in repayment.

Now first, as far as i was aware the arears had been dealt with. Upon further investigation I can see that I had not repaid them (forgive me but I'm a 21 year old who is poor with money).

Now after some very uncomfortable and barely compromising phone calls I managed to get an email address to which I could send a budget sheet to to arrange a payment plan. Eventually I received a response basically advising that they would only accept payments of £75 Pm every 31 days.

Now £75 is mega more than I can afford, definitely more than the budget sheet outlined. I made the last couple of payments but completely forgot this month. I have emailed them straight away advising that I will be able to pay on Thursday (when my partner can lend me it). This will be four days late :( I'm extremely wirried after reading other threads I can see that they are now going to demand the full amount without the option of setting up another payment plan- what are my options?

I live in an apartment shared with my boyfriend. I have hardly any possessions and I am very scared they will take his (he is very technology driven).

What options do I have?? In worried someone in the apartment block might let him in the main building and then if me or my partner try to leave unwittingly he will gain entry this way :(

Nothing like bailiffs to scare you of leaving your house

  • I'm In the same boat as you, they have given me a 48 hour removal notice for nearly £900 where originally I owed them £550. I'm in a lot of debt which is my own fault but it's all being paid through the money group. I told the bailiff this when I phoned him and he said that it doesn't count and that I have to pay in full or he will break into my house take my possessions and change the locks and also charge me the locksmith fees. I'm 20 and live alone with my 2 year old daughter and have been scared ever since he wouldn't agree to make a payment plan with me.

From what I gather by looking at other sites and what rights we have, don't let them in the building, lock all doors and windows and make sure it's secure! I'm sorry it's not much help, I know what your are going through!

I have had dealings with Jacobs, my advice is do not phone them, only deal with them by letter- I email them.
They are known for adding a lot of charges and I have a letter template somewhere wher you can ask for a breakdown of the charges, there is strict legislation about what they can charge,

I know just how you feel, I am scared to have friends round in case they turn up.

Bailiffs can't take property that doesn't belong to you, but it's down to you to prove that it doesn't. I don't know if your partner's word will be enough to convince them.

Bailiffs can't force their way in for the type of debt they're collecting from you so just don't let them in. Make sure your home is always secure.
