Duff car on hire purchase - urgent advice needed

Options
Hello
I entered into a hire purchase agreement May 2012 (my 10th payment due on Friday) over a 36 month term for a 2007 plate car. I really need some advice. Since having the car it has been plagued with issues resulting into several hundreds of pounds in lost income for my husband and myself having to take holiday leave due to the amount of times the car has been off road and in the garage. A list of issues that have arose:
8th August - clutch failed - 2 days holiday had to be taken, my husband lost 2 days income
23 August - head gasket blown - 5 days loss of income for husband, I had to take holiday leave again.
September - loud rattling under car - exhaust and D link had to be replaced.
March 2013 - head gasket blown again - 8 days in garage -holiday leave used again, husband lost income.
Both myself and my husband have no confidence left in driving the car in case something else happens, we are paying for a car that does not do its job? Does anyone have any advice, we would like to recind the contract as the car has never been fit for purpose in the 10 months, we know we could hand it back after 18months without penalty but I don't want to pay for another 8 months for a car that is not fit for purpose and we are unwilling to use (buying a cheap runaround to use in the mean time). If anyone can advise please. Frustrated and annoyed!!

x2 head gaskets is strange, inregards to the rest it is a 6 year old car.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • It is too late to go back to the garage and complain you have bought a lemon. You really need to do that within three months.

As for having two head gaskets - on the first occasion, did you have the head skimmed? If you didn't have the job done properly then it is no wonder you have had to have the job done again. It will need a third one if you didn't have the second one done properly either. Hopefully, you didn't have the second head gasket done at the place that did the first.

Clutch going & exaust going are both items where there is a highish risk of these failing on a 6 year old car. Head gasket is slightly less usual (did it have full service history?), but not out of the question on a 6 year old car.

I am afraid you are stuck with it. If you dislike the car, I would pay off the HP and sell it - don't really see any alternative.

You definitely got no type of limited warranty when you purchased it ??

Is it a Rover? They're reputed to have serious head gasket issues because the K series engine was fitted with a radiator that was too small. If it is a Rover I would get shot of it ASAP and cut your loses - the head gasket will most likely fail again.

Unlikely, methinks they went bust in '05.
Few ones hanging around in dealers after that but pushing it for 07 plate.

Unless the above is related to Landy's or Range rovers?

No, no issues with Land Rover.
They were owned by Ford at the time. Different company entirely.

Yes - I know they went bust in 2005, but there might have been some around 18 months or so later. They were pretty unsaleable and dealerships were stuck with them for a while.
