Alzheimers Help

My mother in law suffers from Alzheimers but so far is managing to live alone in her own home with support from family. However, one of he main problems is that she has very little awareness of 'what day it is'. I have noticed that in hospitals where they care for patients such as Mum they have a board altered daily by the nurses showing day & date. Mum would never remember to change the day/date and a simple diary has failed. As we are not there every day do you know of any 'automatic' products which clearly displays the day and date which we could give Mum to help her? (suitable for a home situation)
Thank you!
Thank you!

automatic calendar clocks are sold everywhere. (john lewis, maplin etc.)eg.http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=clock&source=15&menu=-4&WorldSearch=Y&SD=Y
If her eyesight is ok then the prices range from about £10 upwards. If she needs large display your choices are smaller. You can read more about solutions from the alzeimers organisation here:

Thank you Wolfehouse - I have had a look at both sites you recommend but still can't see a device which will clearly say today "Thursday 10 May 2007" and tomorrow will say "Friday 11 May 2007" etc at a reasonable size for a table top or wall mounting in a home.
Any other ideas anyone?0 -
Hi Marg,
You should get more help with this on the Health board so I'll move your thread over there.

Until you kind people responded I was about to need cards like these for myself!!! Thank you all for taking the time to respond. The clocks shown are a bit too complicated for Mum to understand but thank you all so much for trying.0

Marg, maybe try Ebay then. The bank style clock (the expensive one I posted) seems the most simple and my grandparents have something similar. You might be able to get something like that cheaper on Ebay or Ebid maybe?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Marg, your local Alzheimers Society should have info on all manner of gadgets if your mum is desparate to know what day it is. Another option would be to buy her a big notepad to keep by the phone and ring her every morning to chat and remind her what day it is and gently prompt her to write it down on the notepad. HTH.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
