debt collectors??

My partner recieved a phone call the other day from someone claiming to be from westcott debt collectors. She was reluctant to speak to them because they were not giving up much info about themselves or what they were calling for because she refused to confirm her address. today she got a letter from them claiming that she owes money to Sky. Now she has not had anything from Sky, no letters, no phonecalls or anything so this is the first she has heard of owing any money.
What should she do? I did not think anyone could pass a debt straight on to debt collectors without first having contacted you so that you know about owing it?

Your partner needs to send a letter to Wescott and ask for proof of what is owed.
There is a sticky at the top of the main DFW forum page for a "Prove it" letter.
Just make sure that the debt is not acknowledged in any way in the letter.
