Budget 2013: 'UK government should build more homes'

Near me a 3 bed house sell for about £190k and LHA is £900 a month a return of over 5% for BTL landlord. Government land is becoming available but it is going to be sold of for private developement wouldn't it be better to borrow at low rates available and build council houses. Might be more expensive in short term but would save millions in long term.0

I tend to agree with you. Any wholesale spending of our money needs to be controlled. A new way forward needs too be found. The private sector isn't up to it without massive subsidy. I don't see why tax payer funded welfare payments should be funding private landlords at a strategic level. If we are going to blow money it should at least be to tangible assets for the nation to use."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
