Hi,
I've been looking at D-SLR camera's for the last 2 or 3 weeks, buying magazines researching models and scowling the internet for the best prices. I had originally looked at a Canon E400 and a Nikon D40X as favourites but had been stalling because of the price (cheapest I found for either was £430 with ONE lens.)
However I stumbled across the Olympus E400 SE in Curry's sale recently like a few others seem to have. I looked at it in the shop, on the net and even went to an independent camera shop for expert advice. Here are the results of my findings -
The Olympus E400 is a very good camera, I'm not going to talk you through all of the features because if your reading this thread then you have probably done that already (if not then just Google it.) AND the Curry's offer (the same as Dixon and PC World) is a very good price. However the reason it is cheaper then everywhere else is because of the lens that comes with the kit.
Currys sell the 'SE' kit which has a 17.5-45mm lens. This is a different lens to the ones sold everywhere else which tends to be the 14-42mm lens. This doesn't mean its a bad lens just not as good as as is sold at every other camera shop selling the E400.
I had decided that I would still go ahead and buy it anyway along with the extra lens (40-150mm) for a total of £429 as it was still a very good deal when compared to alternative SLR's in this price bracket UNTIL I got lucky!
Yesterday I went into Jessops having already checked the stores and websites neither of which stocked the E400. However I asked them on the off chance whether they had any and to my huge surprise they said they did have a handful of models listed in their system as discontinued but available for sale at £349 WITH 2 LENSES!!!!!!!!
Not only is this an amazing price and £79 cheaper then the already good price in Currys but the lenses with the Jessops kit are much better then at currys - they are brand new 14-42mm and 40-150mm compact Zuiko lenses designed specially for the Olympus E400.
WHAT A BARGAIN!!!
The lady in Jessops told me they have a total of about 20 in stock throughout the company. They are discontinued in Jessops hence the stupidly low price but can be ordered to your nearest store. I called into my local Jessops in Cardiff and just happened to strike lucky - they had it in stock, I bought it and have it here BRAND NEW.
SO GET TO JESSOPS AND GRAB A BARGAIN!
If you can't get one at Jessops once they are gone then the ones in Currys are still good, I took the details of the Jessops offer into them and they agreed to price match (even though the lenses are slightly different - they didn't notice and I didn't tell them) so you can still get an Olympus E400 twin lens kit for £349 from Currys if you wish - SAVING £79.
YOU CANT LOSE EITHER WAY.
Good luck.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers,

cheers Matt, looked at the currys one on sunday and then spotted this.
At around 10am there were 6 left in the country before I collected the one from Redditch.
The following shops had one left in each:
yeovil, glasgow, southend, watford and putney0 -

Cheers Matt,
I'd fancied the E400 but had decided to wait & look at the E410. However, the twin lens E400 deal was too good to miss. After a lot of fuss (Several Jessops branches didn't want to transfer the camera to my local branch but the local staff threatened to contact an Area Manager) the one from Putney arrived yesterday. Well spotted!
Many thanks!

Can anyone with an E400 post some comments on whether they're happy with the E400? Its taken an age but my kit has arrived at my local Jessops at last and I'd like some feedback from users.0
