'Next' dress bought on Ebay, tiny sizing, Chinese label :-(

I bid for a Next dress on Ebay, size 14, same style as a couple of other size 14 Next dresses I already have in my wardrobe. It loooked good in the listing, lots of bidders so it went for a good price.

When it arrived, it is tiny! The label says size 14, but the inside label has lots of Chinese characters on it and says made in Roumania (presumably for the Chinese market or similar). I've placed the dress alongside my other size 14 Next dresses (same style, mock wrap and flared skirt), and the Chinese one looks like a dolls dress by comparison. I reckon it is more of a size 8-10 than a 14, as it fits my size 10 neighbour pretty well - apart from being a little tight across the shoulders and way too short.

Question is, what should I do about this? I am feeling rather miffed, as I paid £27 for it thinking it was a standard UK size 14. It defintely isn't, but the label says size 14 (well, one of them does - the other one says 11 12, but I am not sure what that refers to).

This is from a private seller who states 'no returns' - what can I do here?

Contact the seller and let them know the problem in the first instance.? Give them a chance to come up with a satisfactory solution.

All the Next stuff I have has the chinese characters on the care label and 'made in china' or elsewhere... I would be suprised if it was a copy .
Do contact the buyer and see what they say in the first instance.
You can open an SNAD at a later date if they are not willing to accept a return, and you would need to return the item tracked at your own expense for a refund...

Get a tape measure out just to be sure. No offense but you might have put a bit of weight on.

  • I think it's important to establish whether listing said "UK Size 14" or something else... just might be a thought.

    What's the seller's rating like?

In all instances contact seller first before going through Paypal. I sell a lot and can't stand it when people go straight to Paypal without contacting me to resolve first (thankfully only happened twice to me).

Er, no - definitely not! I have done this anyway, and the sizes are definitely for around an 8-10 size. Even with stretch, it is only up to a 10.

I have messaged the seller, I will see what happens.

Normally I would just take it on the chin, but this is so far from the normal Next size 14 that I am annoyed and feel rather 'done'. I wouldn't even want to try and resell it, as it is so far off the norm.
  • Good luck - also seller states no returns presumably if buyer just doesn't fancy the look of it etc but this is a very different circumstance! :)

I would try contacting the seller to see what they say.

    Well, that was quick!

I contacted the seller to say pretty much what I posted here, and just received a reply. She says she's not surprised I queried the size, and she's happy to accept a return in this instance.

I'll post it back recorded delivery tomorrow, and take the hit for the postage anyway. I will just be pleased to get a refund of the £27 !

Thanks for all the replies folks!

A sensible approach I feel, taking the hit on the return postage, at least you get your £27 back minus the return postage. Probably the best solution for all concerned.

If she's not "surprised you queried the size" I would think it was likely that she knew it wasn't a standard 14, and if she didn't offer to refund the return postage, my feedback would reflect that
