I have been on slim fast for a few days now and wondered if anyone else is using it?
I think you get much more motivation when you have others on it to chat to and help.
I am not overweight and have a normal BMI, but I have a very large belly. Whether thats from having children or indulging in junk food for years I am not sure. But I am sruggling to lose it.
I am pretty slim in most other places which makes it look like I am 6 months pregnant. But because I am not overweight I am finding it quite hard to lose any weight at all.
I use my fitness pal for calorie and exercise tracking andf have been having a slim fast shake for my breakfast and lunch along with 1 or 2 slim fast snacks.
I have then been having a normal tea, but because I am a comfort eater in the evening I keep caving in and getting take out like mcdonalds or having a healthy tea but then having chocolate.
I have been going to the gym or swimming 3-4 times a week.
So far I have lost 1lb, but my weight fluctuates frequently I am finding.
Would anyone like to join me?

Not a fan of slim fast or any of the fad diets. They're nothing but a temporary measure, once you come off them you need to then work on healthy eating or you'll put the weight straight back on again so why not just start with the healthy eating in the first place?
Also having fewer calories for breakfast and lunch (and tbh I'm not convinced the shakes are even lower calories then a simple balanced meal) is not going to do any good if you're then having a takeaway for dinner and snacking all night.
I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh, but you'd probably lose much quicker if you didn't bother with the slim fasts and instead worked out three healthy meals and stopped the snacking. This may be hard if it's habit but try and work on your trigger points or times when you automatically reach for food. What can you do to try and stop/distract yourself?0 -

Agreed! I'm not a fan of faddy diets!0 -
I'm not a fan of faddy diets either, they don't work. The only way to lose weiight is to re educate your stomach. Eat healthy foods, smaller portions, and cut out the crap comfort eating.

I lost a stone on SF. I was shakey, unhealthy, pale, and I regained 2 stone.

The main reason I went on SF is because obsessing over food makes me crave it even more. I am a single mother of 2 young children and I also attend university so thought shakes would be easier as I can just stick one in my bag and take it with me.
I am also a terrible cook.
I am unsure what I could substitute the shakes with that is healthy and filling and is within the calories to help me lose the tum.
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. SF is expensive so if I can replace with cheaper healthy food I am def up for that.Non-smoker since 05/08/20120 -
If you're not overweight but have a large belly, slimfast is probably the worst thing you could do - it's SO high in sugar0

Lots of support and advice - give low carbing a try-out and see if that wheat belly slims down.0 -
Protein, and lots of it...

Personally, I do basic calorie counting. I have a base number that I stick to and any exercise adds to that. It encourages me to think more about healthy choices - as obviously if I choose low calorie/fat foods I can have more of them - but if I really have a craving for something unhealthy I have it and just cut back or do more exercise for the day.
Also, if you're quite slim elsewhere and your belly seems a bit disproportionate have you considered you might have an intolerance to something - eg wheat or dairy, as this can often cause a lot of bloating etc round the middle. Wheat especially can be quite bad, might be worth trying to cut it out for a week and see if you see any difference?0 -
Tbh the belly is from having children. I couldnt shift it after my c section with my first child and it got slightly bigger after my second child. I just cannot seem to shift it.
I dont think it is intolerance to any certain foods, but I will definetly look into that.Non-smoker since 05/08/20120
