question about uniform

Hi all I just have a quick question about uniforms. I work for a supermarket and have been wearing my own trousers to work for the past year after loosing weight because I dont fit in the trousers they provide. The size 10 wont tie and a 12 just falls down! I have now been told I need to alter the ones provided to fit. Im useless with a needle and thread and dont no anybody I could ask to fix them for me so I will have to pay to get them altered.
I wouldnt have minded but its taken them a year to notice! Should I really have to pay just because they dont provide trousers to fit? Im not the only one to have this problem. The worst part is when they become too scruffy to wear (which in my department could mean a few months, they are that bad quality) I will have to pay to fix them as well.
Thanks for the advice

What does the uniform replacement policy say about getting new items - after all they will wear out and require replacement periodicaly?
Failing that how do you obtion replacement due to damage - perhaps a tear to the material?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Mountains and molehills spring to mind especially as surely altering their trousers is cheaper than buying your own!
In terms of practical advice - Get the 12's and buy a safety pin!
Oh and surely they have a replacement policy i.e. you are entitled to a new uniform every x and you will be provided with x quantity.0 -
Our policy states that they will give you a certain amount of uniform (im 24 hours a week so that's one top, one pair of trousers and one fleece) and if they need replaced due to wear and tear (not changes in weight) they wil replace them. In real life this means if I ask for some the average wait is around 6 months.
There is no belt loops so cant wear a belt and they look awful with a pin. If I pay to alter them they will laat on average 3-4 months before becoming unwearable to work they are seriously bad quality. I would rather buy a decent pair to fit that will last longer. The pairs I habe have lasted from my previous job 3 years ago and still look good.
It was only a question I didnt realise this forum was for major problems only. I just wondered if this was normal because ive never come accross this before. No need for having a go!0 -
Personally I would wear them and look awful with a pin! Or braces. If your employers can't get you uniform that fits they will have to put up with staff who look like their uniform doesn't fit.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

why cant you wear a belt? My trousers are a little big around the waste so I wear a belt and now they are fantastic. I cannot see any issues? Maybe im wrong. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0

Ask on the old style board for ideas how to alter them yourself. I shouldn't have thought they need to be done perfectly and there is probably a quick fix.
My own idea would be to sew a thick piece of elastic and button in at each side seam, slit a buttonhole in the elastic and attach it to the button (in the same way some maternity clothes work). That should allow you to lose and gain a bit of weight without any problem.0 -
There must be other people whose uniforms need adjusting in some way or is everyone else a perfect size.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

If the employer insists on a suplied uniform being worn, then surely the onus falls on them to ensure a suitable and fit for purpose garment is supplied and replaced as and when appropriate - this should include weight loss/ gain.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
