A positive article about compers!

Just saw this pop up on my Twitter feed and thought I'd post the link here for folk to look at.

It's so nice to see an article that shows compers in a positive light - let's hope that more companies start recognising us as an asset rather than an irritation

Thanks for sharing, an interesting read. He doesn't take into account the Facebook rules though does he? No Like & Share and no multiple accounts.

...that these Facebook users don’t disappear the moment the prize is drawn. We’ve hosted several competitions and the unlike rate following a competition winner announcement is far lower than you may expect.

That's because hardly anyone remembers to go back and unlike them - especially if you're liking many pages each day - it's not as if many people are interested in the content of the page or interested in the business ....
I think the number of 'likes' is meaningless, really.

Interesting article, thanks for re-posting :)
  • I've only been comping for a few months and can't believe how how company's make us out to be sometimes. I remember a company around Xmas time, think it was for a hamper or something on fb. The women who ran the comp, said something like people who are only 'liking' the page for the competition only were banned. I think in the end because of the complaints she said anybody could enter. Well what's the point of doing a comp then?.

    Thank you for posting that.

Like some of the comments under the piece, I've discovered companies and products I wasn't aware of before seeing their competitions; and now I am buying those products and recommending them to friends.

I have switched alot of my brands due to competitions, and have made many recommendations etc. Some of them have had such bad handling of thier competitions though, its gone the opposite way - and I would never consider them professional in light of it. Very interesting article :)
    Wishing you all good luck!

Is nice to see that at times our efforts are noticed and it's nice to be seen in a positive light.
It's fairly common on social media sites, for us compers to be portrayed as devils with laptops! Was one on Twitter recently, where after promoting the blog comp and having many entries, actually stated the prize would not be given to a serial comper.
I did message her to say that while we are compers, it increases her followers, gives her blog more credibility as we are unlikely to unfollow and would probably gain her more products to review and keep as she had a larger follower base.
Also as in the post above, comping has made me more brand aware & I often buy from companies I would never have found if I wasn't comping.
It's not only companies that sometimes see us in a negative light, I won a comp last week on Twitter, not a huge prize but a very welcome one, was congratulated by a random person who claimed to be jealous of my win in a jokey way. By following morning had messaged me to say I was a serial comper & prize winner as he had stalked my profile! I sent him a jokey response saying he'd find plenty on my feed if he wanted to enter them.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
