Soup Making - Blender question

I am keen to make soup - lots of you do I know, and I thought it would be a good way of getting more veggies into my family.
I've got a hand blender - a Braun one, but it's got a plastic shaft rather than a metal one. Does this mean it isn't suitable for putting into a pan of hot soup? Do I need to ebay the one I've got and save up for a metal one?
Any advice gratefully received.

Hi nell,
I have a braun hand blender with a plastic shaft and haven't had any problems using it to blend soup and other hot liquids.

Hi nell. TBH I would let the soup cool a little bit before whizzing it. All my blenders have ended up a funny melted shape from my hot soup making attempts.0

Also I find that if you blend the soup when it's really hot, especially if it's got a lot of potato in, it goes a bit gloopy. (sorry bt the spelling!)0 -
Hi Nell, I've also found that putting the soup into a taller container (e.g. a sturdy plastic jug) helps when using a hand blender. I'd also agree with letting the soup cool a bit first, I lost my first blender (jug/smoothie style) cos I didn't let the soup cool first - the plastic jug cracked dramatically and it was pretty messy! (Careful though - this making soup thing can get addictive, as my freezer shows...!)Exiled-Geordie-in-the-west-country (not quite in the middle of nowhere, but I can definitely see it from here!)0

I noticed recently that my plastic hand held blender is now available with a metal shaft, it hadn't crossed my mind before then not to use it in hot liquids as I thought that's what they were for
so just to say I've not had any problem with the hand blender or blender with makings soups and I've been making them for years - hope I haven't spoken too soon
