want to buy a newish car
want to buy a newish car for £3000-£5000 , but have no money, what's the best deal can I get which will allow me to don't over pay like £1000-£2000 ?
where the best place to get the best deal?
going to the delership and get a loan where I'm buying the car from?
or better apply for a credit card?
or maybe getting a car loan online somewhere?
please advise first time good car buyer
I'm tired of buying 10 years old cars which end up breaking once a month (

Your buying the wrong cars if they break down once a month. Try your own bank as they know your account.0 -
How could you repay a loan or run a car if you have no money?0

That's 'some' money then.0

I have loaned Zopa £1000 recently to allow people to get lower loan rates than from banks, that is my limit and other likewise people do the same, you will be credit rated and see if you can get a loan, this may be helpful but not guaranteed, interest rates with banks etc are extortionate, Zopa are more realistic, interest goes to ordinary joe bloggs like me who loan small amounts of money and we get v modest interest. Zopa take a small fee off me, the lender out of the profit I make. (A small start up fee when applicants apply for loan is also taken). I am glad to be able to help people and in their comment boxes when they borrow £10 from me, they are so grateful and say when they have money they will do the same, they are just borrowing smaller amounts below £10,000 to do house repairs or buy a car.(everyone else loans and £10 from many different people make up the loan request amount so if loanee doesnt pay up each of us loose less)

Ignoring barking Brenda above, let's start at the beginning rus4u,
Do you have a job?
How long have you had this job?
Do you get paid for doing this job?
How much do you get paid for doing this job?
Do you have any debts?
What are your outgoings each month?
Have you registered to vote?
Do you have any credit cards?
What are the limits on your credit cards?
Have you ever been late making any payments?
Have you missed any payments?
Do you have any defaults?
Do you have any CCJ's against you?
Just a few questions rus, without knowing anything at all about you, how do you think anyone could answer your question?0 -

A quick quote from Zopa tells me that they will lend at 6.4 APR. Tesco will do it at 5.2%
How is that extortionate?0 -
You dont *need* to spend £3000 on a car! That's a want, not a need.
You may well have been unlucky with some of your prior purchases, but it might be worth taking someone mechanically savvy with you to spot the clankers.
Try saving the £200/month for 3 months to see how easy it is/isn't alongside all your day-to-day living expenses and savings for Christmas/holidays/birthdays/emergencies etc. That way, you will have a better idea of whether you can really afford it and not just on paper. If you don't have £200 a month left over, you can't afford it or you need a period of experience of living that way to ensure you do have that spare.
Or, you could try a different tack. I admit, I have yet to do this, but am considering it.
We have one 5-year old car and DH now works 25 miles away, so needs it. I work 3 miles from home and am currently walking, which is fine but not so much fun if it's peeing it down. Plays havoc with the hair. We are considering the (cash) purchase of a £500 old run about which we would expect to replace before the following MOT is due. Don't think I've seen any loans that you only pay £500/year back of late. Admittedly, this would not be used constantly or for distance driving, but factoring in paying tax/insurance/fuel, we'd still be far better off changing the car every year ~ especially if we get scrap value for the old one (my son's 1998 Punto still got him £140). Importantly though, we'd be saving the money for the replacement through the year.
Just a thought, and as I said, I haven't tried this in practice so it's only an idea right now.LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T
