How to unblock auto defrost hole in fridge?

I need a little advice. I have a self defrosting fridge and everytime I open the door I have a puddle of water on the bottom shelf. I can see that the problem is the excess water is not all draining down the little hole at the back of the fridge. I have tried srunching up a bit of kitchen roll and sticking it down, got a little gunk out but it hasnt really helped - is there anything magic I can put down the little hole to help?
Thanks peeps x

    Hi, Kat!

Try opening up a paperclip and wiggle it around in the hole. Then a bit of bleach down.

We had this problem (about 20 years ago, and two fridgefreezers back) If yours is a fridgefreezer it could be the same problem. Basically it was happening because some insulating putty was missing and the tube was freezing up lower down. So nothing we poured or poked down there helped, until we finally got a guy out who fixed it. Not a lot of help I'm afraid.

Probably bacteria-gunk - as PP said, the paperclip is your friend...

Try getting a drinking straw, poking it in the hole and blowing. DO NOT SUCK - or you'll end up with a mouthful of grot

I cleared my fridge drainage hole like this and I've never had a problem with water running down the fridge walls and out onto the floor since :D

Depends on the size of the hole but a wooden (bamboo) skewer (possibly with a bit of kitchen paper wrapped around the end) will probably do the trick - it worked on our fridge a few months ago...

I've got the same problem, although mine isn't a fridge-freezer. I'm getting a pool of water on the bottom shelf and the little hole has gunge in it. Thanks for the tips :T

    Q-tips are effective - it's a bit grim, though;)
  • Where can I find this hole? Is it inside the fridge or outside?

My fridge/freezer keeps getting soaking wet and it's annoying me now.

Might see if this works, just got to find it first!!
