  • A few weeks ago I bought a couple of boxes of 'magnetic construction set' s, which look like geomag, and the like.

    110 pieces....£4.99
    from Somerfield in Tyldesley.
Made for 'merchandise promotions' PO Box 708 Bristol BS99 1GA

Had a look on the web but can't find anything, wouldn't mind some more myself now that I've seen the prices of geomag etc. Doubt they will still have any in Somerfield.

    Hope this helps,

  • Just typed that postcode into google, and po box 708 comes up as .....Somerfield stores! obviously made specially for them. might be worth giving thier HO a call. tried the postcode with the word magnetic, but no search results came up.

  • emailed the HO to see if these are still available, and got the reply- go back to the local store and ask the store manager.
    Lovely customer service eh?!

If you've got a JTF Warehouse nearby, take a look in there, also seen them on ebay.

There's a chain of toyshops called Toytown in Scotland. Not sure if they are in England. They sell the 86 piece box for £19.99, rather than the £30 I paid for it. I've bought a couple of the different copies, but the quality is not as good. Although the same size, they are not the same weight. It's ok to use them with a lot of the real stuff, but they're not as strong.

I think this is what I bought half-price in The Entertainer in Bristol a few weeks back. And it is reduced on their website. 42 piece set for £10, 20 piece set for £5.

    http://www.thetoyshop.com/ for their website.

Also spotted today in the latest Hawkin catalogue: http://www.hawkin.com

Don't know if it's the 'original', certainly not the cheapest, could even be the same as Sarah found in Wilkinsons, but anyone who hasn't yet met Hawkin is recommended to take a look! Here's the blurb:

    07000: Magnetic Stix & Balls
Each end of the colourful plastic rods is slightly indented and contains a powerful magnet which allows it to fit snugly on to the large ball-bearings. Using a combination of the two different sized rods, all sorts of three-dimensional geometric shapes can be made, re-made, modified and added to. There are thirty-six rods in total and a generous amount of ball-bearings supplied. Excellent play value. Metal Storage Tin. £6.99
