Hi, Everyone,

I am currently looking for a new washing machine, but I can't make up my mind. Could any one give some suggestion on reliability?

My kitchen currently have a built in washing machine, however, I don't know if I should get another integrated one as it is more expensive. It is hard for me to justify to spend extra £100 although it obviously looks better. Dimension wise, it can't exceeding 570mm depth.

After a little search on web, I down to the followings:

Free Standing
Zanussi ZWH6140P £236 @ John Lewis
Bosch Maxx WAB24060GB £269 @ John Lewis

Built-in
Whirlpool AWO/C 0714 £380 @ Currys
Zanussi ZWI71201WA £424 @ John Lewis

Any other suggestion welcome, but won't consider Beko as I don't want my house on fire.

I personally wouldn't go for Zanussi as my last machine was made by them & didn't last as long as I expected for a machine with only light use.

Most John Lewis own brand is made by the same people who make Zanussi stuff-the Electrolux group.

Bosch is generally highly rated but beware they are now manufacturing some machines to appeal to the lower end of the market & I've heard rumour that the cheaper models are not made in Germany as the other models are but in Eastern Europe. Bosch is the brand I'd want to go for though. My latest machine is an integrated Neff, which is the same company who manufacture the Bosch appliances as well as Siemens.

The longest lasting machine I ever owned was a Whirlpool, but the company was still under Philips control then. And it served me well for 13.5 years.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Although mines just had a few little niggles, I would highly recommend a Siemens with a 5 year warranty. Year for year they work out cheaper than a lower cost machine with a shorter warranty and are on the whole very reliable.
A low end Siemens is the same as a high end Bosch.

I have a Bosch (think its the one on your list infact). I got it a few years ago and got it because the Which? guide recommended it as a reputable brand and make and I'm glad I did! My mum had a Bosch and her's broke down after 15 years of heavy use, she got a Hotpoint and it is so noisy you cannot hear her TV when on full volume if you use the washing machine at the same time! She lives in a top-floor flat and is just very lucky she has no neighbours below her because I'm sure they'd serve a noise notice on her, its that bad!

My Beko one lasted me 8 years and then kicked the bucket the other day. My mother in law has a Hotpoint one so I have bought one similar. It's the quietest machine I have ever come across.
