Hi my husband has been inadvertently paying a policy of 34.00 per month he had long since forgotten about. He first took the policy out in 1995, made a claim in 96 and then enquired in 2006 as to whether he could make a claim. At that time he thought he had cancelled the policy (cannot recall how) and has since not realised he was paying the premium monthly. We have moved but no documents have been sent to us or the previous address since about 2006/2007. Can we claim these premiums back? is it the case that on annual renewal we should have been receiving some kind of policy document? He cannot remember what it covered, how much it covered etc and obviously since 1996 our financial position has changed considerably? Any advice would be very grateful. Thankyou.

Claim it back on what grounds exactly?0

There doenst necessarily have to be an annual renewal.
How could he not realise he had been paying it, it would have been on every banks statement he received.
If he is still paying it and doesnt want it, then tell him to cancel it now.
Cant see you have any grounds for claiming it back. He has had the cover for all these years.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

No. These do not renew annually. They are effectively pay as you go.Any advice would be very grateful
If you dont need it any more than cancel it. There are no apparent grounds for any wrong doing by anyone else. Just blame your husband and get him to take more notice of things in future (a cancellation would typically involve writing to the company telling them you no longer want it and cancelling the direct debit)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). He has called them and they can trace his details but the company went under back in 2006 - somebody else (sister co) now has the policy. They did not write to confirm this - their records show no contact with us from 2006 - he believed the 34.00 was another policy he was paying. He seems to think he cancelled the policy back then.0

If he thinks he cancelled it, the bank would have a record of it as he would have contacted the bank to cancel the d/d. Do they have any record of him cancelling it?
I am doubting your husband to be honest. He is effectively asking us to believe that neither the bank or the insurer acted upon his instructions and then he didnt notice it still going out for over 720 months.
