Nationwide Mortgage arrears statement?

  • Ollie7 - i have had the very same letter, been on same payment cycle since 2009 without any issues and then get a short shrift letter saying i'm in mortgage arrears and must pay in 7 days etc etc. Letter dated 3rd March didnt arrive until yesterday 14th so even more 'miffed', so i went into my local branch today. Women on desk helpful, i showed her my previous 3 years statements which all said same thing - she couldn't explain the problem so put me on to the number on the letter. Now my payments come out on 4th so the arrears included the payment which hadn't gone out. (not clear - had to work that out myself!)
Basically i was told that i have been in arrears by £200ish since 2009 when my payments changed. The statements say this, the recent letter however didn't make it clear that NW have decided to chase arrears of smaller values - fine by me, just damn well explain it. I said that i considered myself commercially aware, many others out there might not be and i myself was a bit nervous thinking i'd done something and had got my finances screwed up! I said i was happy to pay the money but thought it a) heavy handed b) poorly explained c) would it not be better to add the £200 to the outstanding balance?! Anyway, give them a call, i would just check your statements for previous years arrears - see if they'll add it to the sum outstanding.....payment date is i believe a redherring. Good luck!
