Get an extra 5% or more off at Argos

It's been mentioned before in other parts of the forum, but a reminder that you can purchase Argos vouchers at 5% discount from here...

That is, you pay £95, and receive £100 in vouchers which you can then spend in store at Argos (on anything, including your RO goodies :-)

One extra trick I noticed is that Argos tend to give you change in cash, so if you buy an item for £12 using 2x£10 vouchers then you get £8 cash handed back. Fair enough of course, but that also effectively increases your discount percentage. If you did that 5 times over to spend your £100, you'll have gotten £40 cash back from your original £95 stake, but still saved £5 on the £55 goods you've bought which equates to nearer 9% off overall.

I'd suggest you get the "Choices" vouchers rather than actual Argos ones, as you can use these in many other shops too (Woolies etc.)

Of course, nothing stops you using a cashback credit card to make the initial voucher purchase (don't think Farepak take AMEX sadly, so it's only good for 1% MBNA-type cards I suppose). Plus getting some psuedo-cashback off your 0% credit card is somewhat like a mini "super balance transfer" too. Just remember, it's not really "free money" and you still have to pay it back eventually even if it is in 12 month's time...

Thanks for this. Just had another look at this site and seen Sainsburys on there too. I do shop there occasionally but buy most of my petrol there - which the vouchers can be used for too.

My sister is a self-employed Driving Instructor and so understandably gets through a lot of fuel - this could potentially save her quite a bit too.

dont rely on this.... if change is over £5, you are supposed to be given change in vouchers

The cashiers don't have to give you change for Choice vouchers, but they do with Argos ones. Best ask them first before buying.

It matters what cashier you get, but from my experience they're meant to give you change in coins if under £1. Anything over is in vouchers.

Mmm yes, when I worked there the exact rules were a little unclear. For non-Argos gift vouchers it's definitely max £1 change in cash, the rest will be given in Argos gift vouchers. For Argos gift vouchers I think we could give up to £5 change in cash.

Apparently Argos will be introducing electronic gift voucher cards (like Boots use) at some point so I imagine you'll get every penny change on one of those cards.

Trustcard credit cardholders can get Argos (and other) vouchers at a 10% discount.
