Wont show me Credit Rating

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and basically the main reason why I joined up to this site. Its a fimiliar story of being young and getting into debt.

Im now at the stage that I want to consider things like mortgages etc. but for the last couple fo yrs any time I've applied for CC I've been instantly rejected.

When at uni I opened an a/c which was quickly closed down once i maxed my overdraft. The bank sent the a/c to a debt collection agency who were then paid in full.

I feel like Im running round in circles. I want to improve my rating but am getting rejected any time I apply for credit. I contacted experian to get my score and details and they couldnt give me them. I followed that by gettihng the stat £2 report (which doesnt really tell me anything).

Does anyone know any agencies that can help you with this cause the people at experian give me the usual story of not being able to disclose info.

Thanks

I contacted experian to get my score and details and they couldnt give me them.

Can you explain exactly what you are asking for here.
There isn't really any such thing as a general "credit scrore".
Each lender makes up their own score on their own rules.
Any company that tries to sell you your credit score is simply making something up.

You are entitled to your statutory credit report from each of the 3 agencies.
but am getting rejected any time I apply for credit

Are you on the electoral role where you live?
Have you applied for all 3 statutory reports.
Do you have any bad history (in the last 6 years) that is showing up.
Do you have a general lack of ANY history.

If you have NO history then the usual advice is to build some up with your current bank e.g. ask them for a credit card as they have their own history on you from your bank account. Then that credit card will show on your report and build up a history for other lenders to see.
Does anyone know any agencies that can help you with this cause the people at experian give me the usual story of not being able to disclose info.

You are legally entitled to you statutory report (and nothing else).
Please clarify what you are asking for here.

    Ok

I want to improve my credit score and also find out how it got so low to begin with i.e. find out any extra information which is recorded on there.

I believe the main problem is down to havin had an a/c with HSBC which was closed and handed over to a debt collection agency.

I want to find out if this is recorded in my file.

Given this was 7 yrs ago I want to know why my score would remain low when I've regularly paid bills on time since this has happened. I want to be able to check over the information on my file so I can contact the necessary people to make ammendments.

Firstly STOP applying for any more credit til you have seen your credit reports. The number of applications you make has a significant bearing on any decison to give you credit.

I'll give you a credit score of 200 if you want !! What you might ask ? But that doesn't mean anything you might think......and you'd be correct, just as the 'score' you recieve from a CRA won't mean anything. It will not tell you whether you'll likely to get credit or not as each and every company will assess your credit worthiness based on their own criteria.

Your previous debt does not put you in good stead as it will remain on your credit report for 6 years regardless of having paid it off. That doesn't necessarily mean you won't get credit before then though.

Read and take some of the advice posted above, especially about trying with your own bank first unless that was the bank you defaulted with ?

Read the following page if you already haven't. It will help you get a better understanding of how these things work :
