Yahoo emails problem

I woke this morning to find 51 'failure notices' in my YAHOO inbox and some auto replies to emails I am supposed to have sent from my yahoo account. However there were none sent. there are no emails in my sent folder, but I apprently sent 75 emails between 23:22 and 23:29 last night.

Anyone had this before?

I've had no replies to any so far and I have no idea what they say.

I'm concerned as 2 have gone to work and they may be virus's.

I have Avast running on the PC and nothing has come up. I've also done a malware scan and nothing.

Any advice?

If they aren't appearing in your sent folder, then it's probably address-spoofing (someone else using your address so they appear to be coming from you).
Not a lot you can do about it unfortunately.
To be on the safe side, I'd change your email password anyway.

Happened to me today. Changed my password and alerted Yahoo to the issue. I've had it happen before and Yahoos advice is just that, change your password.

A friend's Yahoo account was also hacked last night and sent a lot of spam mail which didn't appear to be address spoofing as the spam mails were sent to all his Yahoo contacts. I had the same happen to my Yahoo account which was definitely not due to a keylogger or similar as I hadn't logged into the account in a long time and it had a unique password. I deleted all the contacts and mail out of it to stop that happening again.

This is an issue with the Yahoo servers, everyone that has a Yahoo or btinternet based account needs to change their password and to a secure one.

I.E. not the cats name but something 8-30 characters long with upper/lower case letters, numbers and a symbol in.

There is a big problem at the moment where they have been hacked through an exploit (supposedly fixed by now) that's still sending out spam mails from peoples accounts.

I have had several hundred of these spam mails (I do have over 6000+ yahoo contacts).

My password is now 24 characters long and gets all blue and green marks at http://www.passwordmeter.com/ and that will do for me.

This happened to me today as well. My day off and my boss even calling to alert me! But, I have changed my password etc but have been unable to send messages from the account. I have had to contact yahoo, I hope they sort this out soon.

Yahoo! has blamed cross-site scripting security bugs, which it claims to have squashed, for a recent upsurge in webmail account takeovers.

"Lots of Yahoo! Mail accounts were broken into last week by computers all over the world. It seems a botnet was used to do it."
