Nectar versus Tesco points?
I shop at Tesco as tbh it is the most convenient store for me to shop at and has everything I need. However, my son recently employed by them has been treated in such a shoddy way that I am now considering ditching them and taking my £10k per year and shopping at Sainsbury's.
One of the things I like about Tesco is the massive range of places that you can spend your points at and the fact that you get three or four times the value when you cash your points in.
Sainsbury's seems to have a very limited amount of places that you can spend your points at, which is strange when you consider Nectar are supposed to be the biggest cashback/voucher program in the UK. Also it seems that £2.50 worth of Sainsbury's points just gets you £2.50 off the price of a cinema ticket (for eg).
I think you collect them twice as fast? I think I read that you got 2 points per £ as opposed to tesco which is 1 point per £. However the tesco points are worth more when you cash them in.
If I am totally wrong about this please put me right as I do want Sainsbury's to work for me.

Sorry nothing to do with the question you asked, but are you not tempted to smash that pot and see how much you have saved:o

I shop at both I use my tesco points throughout the year for boat fayres and sainsburys is closer so is used for petrol and top up shopping I think I end up averaging £20-£25 a year on nectar points which for me is either money off the xmas shop or using it to go towards things from argos, when we had adams clothes shop here I used to be able to collect them there too but ebay has now offered to connect nectar account which I think still limits the amount of places I can still use it:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Interesting question! I too would be interested what people have to say on the matter. I have just applied for a Tesco clubcard of my own, I previously put all my points on to my Mams card, but sometimes when I'm shopping on my own and don't have her card (never got round to getting a spare sent out), I then don't give her the receipt in time for her to claim the points back, so I thought it was time I got my own!
The Nectar card however I've had for a while, and they do seem to mount up quite fast, and you can get them in a variety of places, plus the bonus points they do, ie, buy a certain thing, get 100 bonus points, spend over £40 get bonus points etc, really boost your balance. I used to just keep them and trade them in for Amazon vouchers, but they've stopped that now, so I'll be saving them for something else.
Off topic, but I too am amazed you've had the will power since 2000 not to smash the pot! You must have thousands in there!0 -

Points are a red herring: you can save far more by shopping around than you will ever make in points unless you constantly do the glitches. If you are spending £10K a year IMO shop online and rotate between Tesco, Asda, Ocado and Sainsbury or whoever deliver in your area to get the best deals.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Hmm I think I need to update my signature.
My first pot got smashed before it was full, I saved £2 coins in it for 5 years. I used to do chocolate parties and at the end of the season I would write my business account a cheque for the £2 coins in my till and put them in the pot. I ended up smashing it early because we were unexpectedly going on holiday to the USA and I think there was about £550 in it. I have a new pot but have not bothered to keep up with the saving, it's probably Got about £40 in it, I should really start saving in it again.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

On standard everyday shopping you can earn 1p per £1 in clubcard points and 0.5p per £1 in nectar points, so even on a double up your better off with clubcard points. There are offers kicking around like double nectar points for 1 year with sainsburys car insurance so that would give you 1p per £1 for a year but only benificial if the car insurance is worth it.0

my DD and I save our points together and when we go on holiday in August it usually pays for one weeks shopping. She obviously spend more than I do as there are six of themto feed but we use both sainsbobs and Tesco's although I have not used Tesco's quite so much this year as I have found their prices going through the roof almost weekly. There are times when even M&S are cheaper than MrT0

I find that by shopping at Sainsbury's, which is cheaper than Tesco for me anyway, the amount I save far outweighs the 'points value' I could get from Clubcard.
I also get regular money off / extra points coupons worth about 10%.
Never got that from Tesco0 -
The nectar points are a very low value, 500 points only gets you £2.50. Tesco gets you £5.00 so they work out the same.
When it comes to who you use better to use them all to get the best value/deals/offers for your money.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
