As above really, 6 years tomorrow since I was declared BR. Wow, where did it go? All I can say is that it gets easier, it really does, hang on in there.
When I was at the beginning of this awful process, this site was nothing short of a life saver. Thank you everyone who helped along the way.
It has been a long time since I was last on here, and to be honest my time here may soon be nearing an end. However I need one last piece of advice please.
Now I am at the 'magic' 6 year mark, can I expect the BR etc to automatically drop off my credit files, do I need to contact them, or does nothing actually happen at the 6 year point?

Congratulations. My BR was nearly seven years ago. It is indeed a very good feeling when it finally is all over.
However, you can`t just assume that your credit history is now all clear. You need to invest £2 with Experian to double check it. I did, and to my horror there was still one default listed on it. Somehow one of my creditors had registered a default against me months after my BR.
So I had to wait a few exrra months before that too went. I have now obtained an Aqua Card - so slowly I am putting it all behind me.
Yours should be ok, but you do need to check. Good luck.0 -
It should fall of on the 6 year mark. If you haven't done so already, as Kaiser Bill suggests, check your credit files from all three credit reference agencies. In any event is good to check them yearly to make sure everything is okay.
Most of all CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm coming up to 5 years next month myself.

I've just passed the 6 year mark myself and was wondering the same... I signed up with Noddle (call credit freebie website), and got £2 statutory credit reports from both Experian and Equifax. Two of the three agencies had different issues that I'm now addressing - nothing huge as such but one had wrongly dated defaults from the 3 Lloyds debts that were covered in the bankruptcy and the other (equifax I think) still had the bankruptcy itself visible along with insisting I wasn't on the Electoral Roll.
Luckily when I applied for my Aquacard (before checking my credit report) they must have used Experian as I now have a shiny new creditcard with £250 limit to enable my petrol purchases to rebuild bmy credit rating! Good luck and congratulations!0
