Liverpool one gift card

I received a Liverpool One store card for my 40th birthday on 17th March last year.
I live a distance away from Liverpool and so I was planning to spend a day out there on 5/3/13.
I looked on the 'getmybalance' to see if I could add some more money onto the card for the day out, and it was here that I discovered that the balance was zero and it expired on 4/3/13 (today's date)
I phoned up the customer service number to inform them of the above and gain advice and they stated to write this email.
I had always thought that the 12 month expiry date was after first time I would have used my card as i have experienced with other store cards not when it was bought for myself.
I have since emailed their support team to see if they can reinstate the balance and they stated they couldn't.
Is this legal and can I say anything else to them? I feel like they have just stolen the money that was not even spend yet!

Most gift cards have an expiry date, its not illegal. There is nothing you can do if they wont renew it.
There's a zillion other posts about expired gift cards.0
