Br and no bank acc

Hi there

Neighbour and good friend was made br. Cannot get a coop account or Barclays. What are the other options please?

Could they get a building society account and use that, Infact they are older and would prefer a building society account but I think they couldn't get one?

Are building society acc turned down because of bad credit? Are they credit scored,

Thanks ruby

Why can they not get a Co-op or Barclays account?

Apparently they had a Barclays cash card and owed them money, and would like to go back to basics with a building society account. Could they owe Barclays money from a cash card acc and get another one then? Or could they just have a building society account?
    Thanks

..Co-op's policy with regards to undischarged BRs?

    That leaves Barclays?

    Reference the OP?

Has the BR person been applying for basic bank accounts?

Or standard [ie, cheque book] accounts?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

In theory nothing stopping them getting another Barclays account. Barclays did used to allow that, and may well still be the case.

I have a feeling most BS savings accounts would be turned down as they are a bit jittery about those with BRs. Not sure if they think people would use them to stash illicit finds away or something? :( Other more current style accounts are likely to be refused as well.

Thank you fermi, I will ask them to have a chat with Barclays.

If they hadn't been made bankrupt, could they have had a bs account with ccjs and very bad credit though? Is it just the br bit they don't like lol?x

Fermi, what about a post office account? Can you use that as a normal bank account?
  • As mentioned earlier, Barclays where one of my biggest creditors. I just walked in and asked for a basic cash-card account, told them I petitioned for BR on Jan 4th - the lady looked on their system, seen I was a debtor and then said the system said yes, you can have an basic account.

I would have another go at talking to them again.

I don't know. I owed them money from a personal loan. I'm in no position to offer the right advice - only my experience I had with Barclays.

One of the regular guys should be able to help you, i.e fermi, mouse etc.
