Will late payments affect mortgage application?

My Husband and I are wanting to purchase a property and currently have £20k to put down as a deposit, we're looking at houses around £160k. He's has an excellent credit history however I have a number of late payments from 3.5 + years ago on a credit card so really not sure if this will still affect me? For the past 3 and half years I have always paid on time and have no missed payments however prior to this I paid late every month.

Will these past mistakes still have an impact on my ability to obtain a mortgage?? or will they just look at my more recent payment history?
