So Axminster Carpets are now in the hands of the administrator. Bit of a UK institution.
Well D. Cameron, another firm that can`t pick up the public workers being sacked. Politicians, bar a few, are often a waste of space. So Mr. Millionaire, who I heard did claim benefits, what is your next move?

Just lost the thread...
Old yarn - processing apparently was a major factor. If they had offshored production, like a lot of the porcelain/potterties brands, they may still be trading.
Bit of a dinosaur that had been carrying loss making subsidiaries for too long?
When was the last time anyone brought a real Axminster? bit like Vale /Bridgecraft brought by past generations."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

People have forgotten that you have to pay for quality.
they want Axminster carpet at far eastern prices, then come on groups like this when it falls apart in 12 months.
They made carpets that lasted a family lifetime, they were initially expensive but over the life of the carpet they saved money, as you only needed one carpet.
A victim of cheap far eastern tat.Be happy...;)0 -
Modern society is very consumerist, I would say that they are a victim of an outdated business model and they made no effort to adapt.
If they were better at business, they would have survived, DC has little do with this I'm afraid OP.
Are you carpets all Axminster? If not then in reality you are partly to blame.Sealed pot challange no: 3390 -
This will be a major hit for this part of Devon/Somerset/Dorset. Not a lot left other than tourism.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

Pretty much like most places outside the SE and a few choice conurbations."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

We have really old carpets. Older than me. They are not great quality. But they are here and sort of doing for now.
Tbh, I think a huge part of the issue must be that fewer people want carpets. They are harder to clean than hard floors and suffered a huge drop in popularity some time ago.0 -
Few people in Britain want quality in anything any more, unfortunately.
Axminster Carpets tried to sell some surplus land they owned for development but the NIMBYs came out in force.

The Save Our Parkland dropped their campaign at the end of February but, by then, it was too late.
