Can't they make the City of London a separate country - like the Vatican

so bonuses can be paid as they like and people can work the hours they want?

if they did, i'm pretty sure they wouldn't let middle class benefit scroungers like you in.0

i get zero benefits. ZERO. I pay a fortune in tax. the child benefit was paid to my other half who earns nothing for our children who earn nothing.
It was merely a small bit of the tax I pay back.
Yet, people on £100k still get it.
I am happy for it to end altogether, but the current situation is ridiculous. Anyone who disagrees is clearly moronic.0 -
Pope Boris?
It has a ring to it

The City of London is a separate entity. Even the Queen has to ask permission to enter.
Maybe we should just build a wall round the M25 and declare the rest of the country safe now they're all locked up safely.0 -
I consider the posters question to be idiotic.
Anyone who disagrees is clearly moronic 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

So you aren't defended by the British Army, have street lighting and rubbish collection done by the local council we can assume.
No legal protection of property for the old nag, no fire brigade or ambulance service.
The kids were all born in private hospitals which had full provision for all likely eventualities whilst Mrs Nag was in labour.
What do you do with your rubbish? Do you dump it at the side of the road and let the rats get it or do you go down the M Mangetout road?0 -
It's a reasonable question.
What determines whether a section of a country has a democratic right to secede?
Do the inhabitants of the remaining part have any right to be consulted?
What happens if one part wants to secede but the remainder refuse?
Does it depend on the historic origins of the part concerned, or the wishes of the current residents?
What safeguards would apply for residents of an area who did not want to secede? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

they are not "benefits" in the sense of a handout. they are services that I pay (handsomely) for through my tax. As it happens my kids were born in a private hospital (the Portland) and they attend private schools (and nursery).
the point is, people on more than me get this benefit and I don't. that is a stupid system. if you disagree and think it is sensible that two people on £99,999 get full CB and one earner on £60k loses it all - despite the fact that one earner may be single and have no other half at all to help out - then tell me why that is fair.
If they restricted it to one child only - fair enough.
If they cut it off to HOUSEHOLDS on £100k or more, fair enough.
If they just stopped it completely, then fair enough.
But this is just rank stupidity.
Anyway, the this is not the point. The point is, can the city be made a seperate entity to the rest of the UK so it is not part of Europe? Or perhaps Canary Wharf?0 -
If Scotland can leave The Union then why not The City. Yes in other words.0
