Spalding Planting & Bulb Co. - Possible Win?

Hi,

Anyone else received a package today containing a few letters from these?

Inside is a catalogue for flowers, and attached in the package is 1 Scratch card, telling me iv'e won a TV. Also, a silver "Cash Card" with claims iv'e won £55,000 as I've matched the numbers to there attached letter.

Well, it looks totally fake and unbelievable, but you don't have to ring any numbers to claim a prize, all you have to do is return the scratch card and cash card with the cost of a stamp in there attached envelope.

I'm thinking you can't go wrong, but can I? A little worried there will be a con I am not thinking about.

Anyone.. ?

How does this scam work, out of curiosity?

Is the next letter you get saying they need £100 to ensure safe delivery of your tv or something?
  • I'm glad this topic exists because I nearly fell for this scam! Though I wasn't going to put my credit card details on the form anyway I still feel like a fool....
  • I had the same , I'm not sure if it's a good marketing technique or not because it certainly put me off buying their bulbs.

It is most certainly a scam as my parents bought plants from them after being "guaranteed" £25,000. Plants that arrived were terrible - over half died within a few days and those that did survive were rubbish. Then sent my parents another letter saying they were "processing" the cheque and it could be increased to £45000 if they placed another order. Stupidly (yes, I told my Dad to avoid but he loves his garden) they put in another order...only have the order arrive and again, the plants were poor quality.

Months passed..my parents wrote and phoned (yes...we're about to send out the cheque...sorry, we've lost the original paperwork...looking into it...).

Then they got another letter saying they were "guaranteed" £5000 if they placed an order. At which point I told my dad he'd be a prize idiot to continue.

My parents tried phoning one more time to be told they would have to send in ALL the paperwork they'd ever been sent by the company to "prove" they had received the offers. Of course, it was now nearly 2 yrs since that first letter so they didn't have EVERY letter. Company then said, tough..you don't win anything and were extremely rude when my mum suggested it was a marketing scam saying "well, you were stupid enough to fall for it!"

My parents are in their late 70s so were shocked that a company would behave as badly as this
    SERIOUSLY, AVOID THIS COMPANY PLEASE!!!
