Bank refuses to declare accounts Satisfied.

Hi all, part 2 begins. a quick recap. over the last month and a half i have been in the process of cleaning up my credit files. i have made good process and most of the banks and collection companies have since amended the details on my files to show the correct default date and date satisfied. however 1 bank (Ulsterbank) have refused to do so. there is 3 seperate accounts defaulted with each of the credit referance agencies some of them do show the correct default date but all have a status of "Default", which should be changed to "Satisfied or partially satisfied" if i am correct in reading the sticky on this forum.

i phoned them today and explained thet i believed that they were incorrect to refuse, the guy on the phone who is the one actually wrote the letter said that because one of the accounts was a joint account then they were in the right until they could get the other person who owed the money, what do ya think?

Joint accounts where one person was BR and the other still owes the money are a grey area.

Argument 1 = The credit file status must reflect the status of the debt, and until it is settled by the other party then it is correct to record it as unsettled on both person's file.

Argument 2 = The credit file status must also reflect your liability regarding the account. They should not both be the same, as one person is still liable while the other is not.

On the few cases I've seen some creditors have agreed to marked as settled/satisfied as per (2). While others will not budge and just say that you should add a notice of correction to say your liability was settled with your BR.

Now I don't recall anyone posting a decison on which is fair from a complaint to the ICO/FOS?

I would be interested to see one myself.....
