council tax 25% discount

I just found out i can get a 25% council tax discount for being the sole occupier of a property. It sounds like they (Gosport Council) will back date this but i'm not sure if there will be a cap on how far back it can be back dated. Does anyone know the answer to this?

You need to speak to the council.

Errata

Don't expect the council to backdate it just because you made a mistake.

They more than likely will. My cousin had the same issue with North Tyneside council.

They already said they will. My question was does anyone know if there will be a cap on how far back.

Only they will be able to answer that I reckon. I guess it'll vary from council to council.

Check quick, as under new rules a lot of councils will not back date anything after April.

There is nothing in regulations to allow a council to refuse to backdate a council tax discount or exemption providing suitable evidence of entitlement is given.
