credit file

I recently applied for a small loan and was refused, I ended up getting a loan with a higher interest rate.
I signed up to Checkmyfile, on looking I was horrified, it stated DD with Barclays bank, then a Barclays current account 'open' and owing £175, I clicked on the link and it opend another page, it stated arrangement to pay.

I had a mortgage with a mortgage current account card attatched to it. I paid every thing off when I sold my house.

I contacted Barclays who told me I have NOT deffaulted, the account is closed and has been since 2008 and every thing was paid, payments were never missed. He told me it was not that account so he reffered it to Barclay credit card.
A few days later Barclay card contacted me, they found nothing as I have never had a credit card.

I then phoned London complaints, they took an hour to go indepth with my name address and previous address. They said I owe nothing and never had as all payments had always been on time, they did however find a man named Mr M xxxxxx at our last address owed this money, I told him this man purchased m house, he appologised and said that he would send me a letter and would contact the credit reference agency to get it removed, that was 4 weeks ago, nothing, absolutely nothing has been done, no letter sent, so off to phone again.

Barclays bank will do nothing as we owe nothing, they have no account with the last 4 digits which is on the credit file.

Barclays credit card can do nothing as we have never had an account

Both banks cannot ask the credit agencies to remove it as the account number belongs to some one else and it is data protection, hahahahaha, excuse me for laughing, so he said "go to the address speak to Mr X and ask him to remove it from your credit history" ?????? So, what happend to my data protection, oh yes he said, oh well, I cant help you.

I contacted the credit agency they said Barclays have to contact them :(

So now ive asked the Ombudsman to sort it but he said it was a difficult one as no one can do any thing as it isnt my account.

Has any one had a similar experience, if so how did it get resolved.
