Ideas for wedding reception in the sitting room

So we are having a small registry wedding in the UK in a couple of weeks for about 20 close friends and family. Note we are having the big church one in Africa in a couple of months so we want to keep costs at the minimum.
We paid for the notice and the here ceremony around £260.
Am cooking the meal with friends.
The challenge now is the venue for the reception. We plan to use our sitting room but we don't have enough seats or tables. We only live in a small flat so there is no garden either. And not enough cutlery.
Anybody know if we can hire about 15 chairs and tables and where?
We live in Reading centre.
I want to save money but I don't want it to look trashy either.

Could you not borrow some tables and chairs from your friends and family? Then use the money saved on that to get matching table cloths and chair covers or some material to run them up yourself. Once things are covered nobody will know if the furniture does not match underneath.
Cutlery and crockery does not need to match either, you could either borrow or look around charity shops. If you do want it to match, you can pick cheap sets up in places like supermarkets, white would probably be best then you could link it in with what ever colour scheme you had with simple ribbon around a napkin etc.
Have a look at some of the tablescapes on google images or pinterest, it's perfectly possible to decorate on a budget with a bit of imagination. Agree with Mrs. Bones...borrow!!! As long as the company and food is good no one will care what/where/how they are seated! Or....make them dance all night and offer no seating. Enjoy and many congratulations.:)0

Don't know if its any use to you but when we have needed tables for bbqs at work we have borrowed them from the local village hall for free. Would that be an option anywhere near you- even if thy charge they will likely be cheaper than a dedicated company.0

as space is limited,rather than trying to put more tables and chairs in have you thought about taking stuff out and emptying the room of all but essentials.
If you were to stack all the furnature in another part of the flat apart from a table for displaying food and maybe a few chairs for elderly or any relations/friends who have to be seated.
You could do a finger buffet or canape reception where there isnt a need for cutlery and just allow people to stand and chat....its amazing how much extra space you can make by clearing away the things that you dont need to use on that day.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
