cheapest supermarket for veg?

wondering between sainsburys/tesco's/waitrose/morrisons

a lot of ppl say how waitrose is nice, but don't you find it's a lot more expensive than the others?

morrisons stores usually seem nice - not so much sign clutter (unlike tesco's which has loads), and usually very clean.

i find it difficult to compare prices on individual items between the supermarkets, does anyone actually do this ?

many thanks!

I mostly compare on the websites - Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda, Ocado and Waitrose all have everything online, or you can use Mysupermarket. They all have apps too, if you have a smartphone, so you can compare prices when stood in the smaller discounters. I actually use the apps to write my shopping list for each store, so put stuff in the virtual basket having compared prices at home.

Waitrose/ Ocado are not more expensive across the board, some of the basic veg I buy certainly is, but then they have free range lean pork mince for £2 a kilo LESS than Tesco regular lean pork mince.

Cheapest is not much good if it is inedible.

I find Tesco stuff just picked at the wrong time just too early so tasteless. The buyer obviously does not eat much fruit and veg.

If it is packaged up into the wrong sizes too it just goes off before you can use it all so not cheap as it is a waste.

I have to be in the right place at the right time in the right quantity for me to buy anything.

    hmmm... thankyou

are the online prices the same as the in-store prices though

it can seem very confusing !

yes, i have shopped at tesco the last 2 years, thinking it was cheaper (they certainly give that impression), but i am questioning that assumption now.

i did try a very cheap variant of asda's and morisson's blue cheese. it really did feel better not to eat it.

Cheapest and Best are not the same and never will be. If you want cheapest then that's a compromise on quality.

Personally I wouldn't buy Tesco fruit and veg, even organic. It's over-refrigerated and tasteless.

I have found my local Lidl to have very good fruit and veg, other stores seem to vary. Lidl does have some organic fruit and veg too these days and is by far the cheapest place for it eg bananas 99p, onions 67p, carrots 82p

My local ASDA again has very reasonably priced veg which is pretty good quality on the whole. Organic is hard to come by but not bad when found and usually cheaper than Sainsbury's and Waitrose though bananas can be more expensive.

Waitrose and Sainsbury's.. wouldn't buy non-organic because they are more expensive and why pay more for bog standard. I do think their organic veg is good though and worth the money unlike Tesco's.
