Live below your means. Starting at 23 is good - most people's lifestyle inflation starts in their mid twenties and the damage is done by the time they're 35 because you get used to a certain standard of living.
Anecdotally, by observation of early retirees who retired from my workplace in their 50s, not having children makes this a LOT easier and lot more likely
