Shopping for a civil ceremony outfit

Hey there, I'm taking a good friend shopping for her 'wedding' outfit - she is marrying her partner, but really hasn't a clue what she wants to wear.
Anyone have any ideas where i can take her? I'm thinking maybe the department stores? She wants something special but not white and not anything like a traditional wedding dress. Her partner hasn't yet selected her outfit either so we aren't sure what she needs to match either yet!
I would love to treat her to a personal shopper - do you have to pay for these and do they pressure you into making a purchase?

Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Bigger department stores tend to offer personal shopper services for free I think? Definitely Debenhams does, although I haven't used their services myself.
Another place that would be worth looking is Monsoon, which does lovely dresses and suits in their Bridal range.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

I have used the free personal shopper in Debenhams before for a guest at a wedding outfit and they were great.
I got my wedding dress, (a dark purple evening dress) from House of Fraser. Again the staff there were very helpful once they knew why I was looking.
I would recomend going in the week not on the weekend as they are less busy and more likely to be able to spend the time with you.0 -
Great, Debenhams is definitely going on the list - yes, happily we are going on a friday! I'll take a look at their website now.
I've done the traditional wedding dress shopping with another bride and that was LOADS of fun, her trying on all the merignes (don't know how you spell that!)Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
