Should we re-fix mortgage now?

Our fixed rate mortgage runs out at the end of June and I've heard (confirmation would be appreciated) that we'll struggle to re-fix once I start my maternity leave as some lenders will assume I'm not returning to work.

So we're trying to decide whether to investigate re-fixing or ride out the unfixed rate.

Current rate is 4.89%, new rate will be 3.99% presently. It's a repayment mortgage and we are only 18 months into a 35 year mortgage.

Should I contact Halifax to arrange a re-fix now (if possible) or do we have to wait?

You might find that you have to declare the imminent reduction in salary anyway, which would leave you in effectively the same position.

Possibly, my husband's income is due to increase in April so maybe we'll wait for that documentation to come through, it balances out then.
