if she is employed on PAYE and there are no special circumstances she has no need to file any tax info.

if her tax code is correct then she is paying the correct tax already.

If she had no income prior to starting the job then it sounds like her tax code is wrong, as she shouldn't have been paying tax from the start (unless she's earning mega-bucks!). So she really needs to get that sorted out first, perhaps if you tell us what the code is and what she earns we can advise.

Reclaiming overpaid tax is covered here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/overpaid-thro-job.htm

i cant find one of her pay slips atm as she s out and i dont want to root thru her stuff

assuming she had no previous job and didn't claim any JSA then her taxcode code ought to be
    810L

if she has 810Lm1 or 810Wk1 or anything similar then her code is wrong.
also if she has BR then that's wrong too.

come back and post up her code when you have the details but do quote the full code including any letters or numbers after.

BR code means Basic Rate, which means she is being taxed at 20% on the whole of her wages.

Did she hand in P45 or P46 when she started ? - if she didnt this will account for the BR code.

Was she on benefits (JSA) before she started the job ? - if she was she needs to hand the P45 when she signed off, if she wasnt then she can write to HMRC here

    HM Revenue & Customs
    Pay As You Earn
    PO Box 1970
    Liverpool
    L75 1WX

and make them aware of the situation, as her employer *should* only change here code on the instructions of HMRC.

It would be quicker to phone HMRC and explain she only has one job but is on BR tax code

probably best to do this first thing in the morning or evening
