I think there's quite a lot missing from McDonalds which would class it as a Restaurant.

Well in fairness (and its quite ironic when you think about it) McDonalds haven't found any horsemeat in their burgers

OP, I'm not convinced that you or your husband actually understand what is being offered. He is being offered a franchise which is a unique business model whereby your husband becomes self employed but effectively pays a licencing fee to DPD. The van arrangement may well be part of the licensing fee.
If you want to go down the franchise route, you would be well advised to seek professional help as, respectfully, you don't seem to understand the position.
Agree with above.
Your husband is not 'getting a job' but he is setting up his own business, he would have to register with HRMC as sole trader and pay his own taxes.
He would have no employment rights, obviously, like sickness or holiday pay. He would have to keep accounts and be able to account for every penny that comes in or goes out.
He needs to think carefully if this is what he wants to do.
Most franchises charge an upfront fee, it sounds like what they do instead is to get an inflated payment for the van.

Thank you everybody for all the advice and information. I don't think it's worth it, this guy he met working for DPD said that up until minutes before he signed the contract he was told the van would cost £750 a month, but it changed to almost £1000 and he had already trained for 4 weeks prior and needed to work so signed the contract, he also said most people that were starting same day as him walked out when told the price increase. Anyway, thank you ALL again.0
