Signing off JSA?

Hi guys,
Just need a clear answer on something i'm not sure about.
I've been claiming JSA for a while, and now need to sign off due to a new job starting this week coming up.

On my last signing-on end of this week (friday) the woman said as I had been on it a certain amount of time, I was now booked in with an advisor, next signing on day(friday 8th) for a discussion and getting transferred to the work placement scheme, you know the one where they treat you all like slaves etc, make you do loads of work for no pay at all... :naughty:

My next due date to be paid would be wednesday 20th, week after next.
When I fill in my booklet and send back to the the Jobcentre tommorrow, what do I put as the Final claim date? If I put it before friday, will I still get my money i'm due in a week or so?

I obviously want it to be before this friday, as if I go to the appointment and get signed on the work scheme, you get stuck with them on your back for upto 2 years apparently! And besides, I have a job lined up now finally :)

Thank you! :)
Only when our eyes have seen darkness, can we truly appreciate the light...:A

You should not sign off until the end of the first day of employment. You may not like the job and never want to return. You can work up to 16 hours in a claim week without losing your JSA claim. If you start on Monday set the signing off day to Sunday and you will get a couple of extra days of payment.

You really should still go to the meeting on Friday as you are still subject to all the rules whilst claiming. If you fail to go to the meeting you may be sanctioned in a future claim in the near future. i.e if you only stay in the job a few weeks and need to do a rapid reclaim.

  • You can have up to 3 emergencies (excuses not to sign on) just use them till u get your 1st wage then stop signing on

If you use them all up then if a rapid reclaim needs to be made the claim continues and there would no longer be any days left...I'd just go to the meeting on Friday and not waste a day.

Your appt is next Friday and you are starting work on the following Monday, yes?

If that is correct go to the appt and hand in the booklet to the advisor BEFORE the appt actaully starts as in before they say you are being transfered the the Work Programme.

Sorry guys, just to add -

My appointment is next friday, yes, but my job starts next wednesday. I got a call saturday afternoon, confirming I had been accepted for the job.

So you start work TWO days before the appt?

Go the the job centre the DAY BEFORE you start work and sign off and tell them you have an appt a few days later but will not be at it

If you have a job due to start soon they can push back you joining the work program. You can also sign off at your next meeting and still get paid until your last day of unemployment or if you're sending the book back you just put in the day before your employment is due to start.

Your claim ends day before any work is started

Yeah you can put your book in the day you start work but they will make sure the end date is the day before you start job

Example I once got offered job Friday end of day to start on the Mon after that wkend Monday went in and the advisor ensured Sunday date showed so day before

You'll only get a day or 2 to decide if you like job or the Fri at a push - not long so make sure it is want you really want

What is the talk in this thread about deciding if you like the job? If you are on JSA and refuse employment or sign off to start work then reappear a day later saying you didn't like it then your continuing claim or rapid reclaim is going to be affected as you will be deemed either to have made yourself unemployed or to have refused employment and likely receive a sanction.
