Cleaning mock brass taps old style

Hi all hope you can help? I have bathroom and kitchen fittings, which we inherited with the house, and because they are the gold looking possibly mock brass I have no idea how to clean them and lime scale is building up!:eek:
Fingers crossed one of you know as have tried a web search and can't find anything also I am not really into chemicals but all the products I have looked at say not suitable

Have you tried cheap vinegar on a non-visible bit? That will normally get rid of limescale. For build-ups you need to keep it in place for some hours / overnight with some tissue or cotton wool.

Unless you really like them, I'd be tempted to replace them with standard stainless ones that you can clean with ordinary cleaning products.
