Hi,

Got a letter from the 'Examiner' (acting on behalf of the OR?)... basically along the lines of:

'We require the following information:

details of your self employment

Please ensure we receive this within 7 days.'

Followed by a paragraph along the lines of:

'Failure to comply with this will result us in...'

Can't remember what it said (don't have letter at hand at moment) but it seemed quite abrupt.... is this normal wording? Or am I looking in to it too much?

I declared 6-7 weeks ago.... is the long delay normal?

Should I be worried?

Not even sure exactly what they want or for what tax year (??)...

sounds run of the mill, not sure on the threats tho, maybe they were just making you aware of what will happen if you don't comply, bet it's some law or something, as they are acting under the court, so I guess they do have to sort of give you your rights so to speak, wouldn't really be fair to ask you for something, then wait to not receive it, then tell you "oh we didn't say but as you did't send us that info in 7 days you are now nicked" or maybe it was rude and your OR got out of bed the wrong side :rotfl: maybe post the wording used and we could comment better.

It's normal, you will need to send in details of your income and expenditure of your self employment, bank statements etc. Not sure if they want receipts of expenditure or not, worth checking unless someone comes along with knowledge of self employment. I normally communicated with my OR/examiner by email, that way everything asked and answered was there in writing.

Although doesn't seem that bad now, maybe I just panicked a little with the deadline?!

yeah, letters always seem more scary the first time of reading, as I thought they were just letting you know what the rules are, seems over the top when they have just asked you to start stating the law but remember the OR is acting on behalf of the court so these things need to be made clear.
