hi, im new here and have already found this site great
To cut a very long story short i have been with the CCCS for 2 years now and owe £26,000. These debts were from a bad marriage and i was left with them and have been trying to pay them off. I am a single mum and i work but dont really seem to be getting very far.
The debts are not secured and i live in rented accomodation. I have a car on HP which i use for work. I have considered options of repaying the debts and was just really after some advise on the pros and cons of bankcrupcy.
I am really asking for ur opions and has it been the best thing for you or not ?
Any advice please
Thanks

Hi Pink,
As undischarged bankrupts we've sweated blood, and tears on this forum over the last few months and for the majority I think the feeling is that it's marked a positive turning point in our lives.
The most important thing you should do is consult with one of the debt charities. Their advice is free, impartial and their advisors are professionally trained. If they advise that bankruptcy is your best bet then you'll find all the advice and support you need on this forum.

completely agree with Richard
Its NOT an easy decision but it has been the best decision for us as a family to this point
Also in rented and major problem has recently been having to change homes and had to get guarantor to secure new accommodation
Other than that all is progressing ok and the relief and reduction in stress is huge
Good luck in decisions but take advice offered from the debt charities - they are goodDischarged June 06:beer:

Hiya
Welcome to the board!
So far, BR was the best decision for me, and to be honest, can't really see that changing. An absolute weight off my shoulders.BCSC Member 70:j

Pink,
I have to confess I did wrestle with my conscience over this one, and my situation was by no means bad compared to so many on here. I think I'd been kidding myself for a long time that my debts were manageable and it wasn't until I sought help from the debt counselling services that I really faced up to the reality of things. When they suggested BR (an option I had not ever considered) I burst into tears, went into shock and then denial.
After a few weeks and a lot of research I realised it probably was the best solution for me...and so far it has been. I'm only a month into my sentence and I do have times when I feel incredibly guilty about not being able to repay the debts (and maybe some people will say rightly so) but having finally been able to draw a line under this long standing problem is a tremendous relief.

Hi Pink,
I'll be saying the same pretty much as everyone else - but I too was with CCCS for about 2 or 3 years before BR, I felt I was getting nowhere and indeed i was right - it would've taken me about 10 years and still had bad debts and loss of credit status over my head. So, BR has been a good option for me too- also in rented house, rubbish car, no valuables, so nothing to lose except the worry of the phone calls and letters everyday.
everyone has to make the choice though and as said already make sure you get good impartial advice from a debt charity.
Good luck! and let us know what you decide, there's always people on here for support. I wish I'd had this site when I was going through it. Member number 66!Cheers all!0 -
