Fearful my chickens are about to be murdered!

Options
My next door neighbour has kept chickens in his back garden for 3 years lovely coop and fencing but he doesn't lock them up at night.

One week ago our kind neighbour up the road purchased a Cockerel. It is making its noise at blimming 5:30 am and many of the neighbours have already complained to Enviromental Health.

Our chickens have a lovely large coop which is very sturdy. We are very careful that we lock them up.

This morning my next door neighbour fed the chickens at about 7am and after this a fox came and did his or her stuff. It looks terrible feathers everywhere. He is so very upset and is convinced that the Cockerel arrival has attracted the foxes and that is what has caused this sorry mess.

It could be a circumstantial but now I am worried about even going out. My chickens are part of the family. No doubt the foxes will come back as we live next door. I feel we have done everything we can with the fencing bar having it electrified. I am aware even a fox prowling around can cause shock and the chickens die.

Any advice for my lovely 4 ladies.

Have they got a run they can be locked in when you go out? A fox can jump over a 6' fence and will also dig under.

It's certainly horrible to lose them to foxes. We lost 7 last year, including a couple who we'd hatched only 3 months earlier. We found the fox had dug under the fencing.

The best thing you can do is get someone to shoot the fox! :D Ring around local country estates and find a gamekeeper who will do it...
I used to have 100 hens and they were free range! it was a nightmare to get them all to bed! but we didnt have any foxes on the island i was living on - but we did have polecat ferrets :S they were just as destructive as foxes! We got a live trap from local gamekeeper and when we caught it he came and disposed of it!!
