cheap breadmakers?

Options
Hi, this seems like the forum with the wisdom to advise me :p I'm looking for any recommendations for a breadmaker, I have around £60 to spend, could possibly stretch a bit more, but basically I need a cheap one.

I'm at uni, so will just be me eating it most of the time, although no doubt the flatmates will steal some, so it doesn't need to be big or anything, just hoped someone would be able to help!

Thanks for any advice :)

I've been looking at buying a breadmaker, and then I just made some bread in a bowl and bunged it in the oven, and it turned out really good!

I mixed up a packet of bread mix and the specified amount of water in a bowl, bunged it in the airing cupboard for an hour, then mixed it up a bit more and put it back for another half an hour, and then put it in the oven for half an hour.

I learned 2 lessons: (i) dust the edges of the bowl with flour when you leave it to stand, to stop the expanding dough sticking to the bowl, (ii) it is really easy!

I'm now wondering if it's worth getting a bread maker...

I would look on ebay as MarmitePotato says. I got mine from there. It's an Argos brand one and works brilliantly :D

Cheapest bread maker is your hands (seriously) it is so easy to do, but if you can't be bothered I would look at the likes of Argos (read reviews) or Aldi/Lidl.
You don't want to spend a lot as it might be a flash in the pan and then relegated to the back of the cupboard like many people do.
Also be aware that there are no additives in home made bread (also not unneeded ingredients) so the bread will not keep as long a processed shop bought, so if you buy a large pan bread maker then the bread could be wasted if the loaf is too big to use.

Many bread recipes around or follow the flour bag recipe!
You need Strong Bread Flour and if using in a bread maker use the quick sachets of yeast.
If making by hand (and you have the time and a fridge) then try making with your own wold yeast - how to can be sourced on line - beware it has a life of it's own  and needs to be fed at least once a week :)).

Basic bread ingredients, Strong Bread Flour, Salt, Yeast & Water (no you don't need milk or dried milk unless you want an enriched bread, or sugar. And any other ingredients are added for variety of recipe!).
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

I've had a Panasonic for 10+ years and love it. I also trust whatever Lakeland sells totally.

So, given you haven't got enough cash for a new Lakeland one (I guess, I haven't checked), I'd see what they are selling at the mo, then look for that one on ebay.

Or check out a local British Heart Foundation furniture shop. I got a breadmaker in my local one for £15. Best fifteen quid I ever spent. It's not a pricey Panny but I love it so

I just made a really good loaf of bread this afternoon - a packet of bread mix, a bit of water, some elbow grease, and it came up great.

(And of course, I could have halved the mix it if I'd wanted a smaller loaf.)

I suppose a maker with a timer would be handy for breakfast, but otherwise I am now thinking it is overkill.

I have had a Cookworks one for about 3 years and use it several times each week. I use it mainly for pizza dough or bread rolls so make the dough in the breadmaker and cook in the oven but it makes a loaf of bread perfectly well too.

I have never owned a different brand so cant compare but if I needed another one I wouldnt pay a fortune for it.

Thanks very much, I looked at this one but could only find a few reviews for it so was a bit dubious, but at 34 quid I think I'll give it a go.
